Homemade Southwest Black Bean Burgers are the perfect protein-packed, vegetarian powerhouse burger option for all your summer cookouts!

I will be the first to admit we are not vegetarian in our house. My husband is very much so a meat and potatoes kind of guy. However, we do have a lot of vegetarians in our family. So whenever we get together for family events, we always have a vegetarian option to go with the meals. Of course, we want everyone to enjoy the meals, so no matter who we are cooking for, it has to taste just as good as the rest of the food.

My sister-in-law is vegetarian, and so are her kids. In fact, my niece also developed some issues with gluten and grains, which, if you know, are in a lot of vegetarian options. I couldn't have my niece not being able to eat something at a family gathering because things would make her sick. So I decided to work with what she could have and what she liked, and that's where these Southwest Black Bean Burgers came from

  • Shape the mixture into patties.
  • Either cook or grill the black bean burgers about 4-6 minutes per side, depending on thickness.
