Ingredients.
- Gluten-free bread - You can use your favorite gluten-free bread; it doesn't matter if it's homemade or store-bought.
- Garlic. - I prefer to use fresh garlic to make gluten-free garlic bread. If you want to make it even more delicious, I highly recommend taking a little bit longer and making some roasted garlic to use.
- Butter - Butter is the backbone of garlic bread, but it's still possible to make it delicious using a dairy-free alternative like Earth Balance sticks to make this a dairy-free garlic bread. I do suggest making sure to use unsalted butter; this way, you can control the amount of salt in the final garlic bread.
- Olive Oil - Olive oil is the secret ingredient that helps to give you garlic bread that is full of flavor all the way through, and not just on the outer crust.
- Herbs - As much as I love using fresh herbs, I don't tend to use fresh herbs when making garlic bread because the fresh herbs lose their flavor as the bread bakes in the oven. If I want to use fresh herbs, I will top the baked garlic bread with some chopped parsley before serving, but I use dried herbs in the butter paste.
- Parmesan Cheese - A little bit of parmesan cheese on your garlic bread helps give your garlic bread the perfect crispy coating that you can't resist. Of course, it's totally optional if you want to leave it off.
- Salt and Pepper
Gluten-Free Bread.
I will always be a fan of making this garlic bread recipe with some of my freshly baked gluten-free French bread. The flavors and textures, in my opinion, just can't be beaten. My gluten-free brioche bread also makes a delicious Texas toast-style garlic bread. If you want the bread and not the grains, I suggest making my grain-free French bread. However, I get the desire to want to make some gluten-free garlic bread faster with some gluten-free bread that's already made.
Look for a gluten-free bread that is white-style bread. Garlic bread doesn't taste the same when it's made with wheat and seed bread.
Gluten-free baguettes. - Companies like Schar, BeFree, Udi's, and Against the Grain Gourmet all make and sell gluten-free baguettes that can be found at the store. My personal favorite is the Against the Grain Gourmet ones, which are usually in the freezer section.
If you can't find those, You can use gluten-free hamburger buns or even hot dog buns to make garlic bread. I love the ones from Canyon Bakehouse.
Vegan Garlic Bread
You can make this gluten-free garlic bread into a vegan garlic bread by using a dairy-free butter alternative and either a vegan parmesan cheese or just leaving it off. Sprinkle a little bit of nutritional yeast on top to still get that cheesy flavor.
Note: You will also want to ensure that you are also using vegan bread since not all bread or gluten-free loaves of bread are fully vegan.
How to Make?
Step 1. Prep the bread.
Depending on what type of gluten-free bread you are using to make garlic bread will depend on how you prep the bread. I prefer to use a good gluten-free french bread that I slice in half or into rounds, depending on how I plan to serve it.
Step 2. Make the garlic butter to dip the bread.
Melt half of the butter and olive oil together with some grated garlic.
Step 3. Dip the bread.
Step 4. Top the bread.
- Make the butter and herb spread.
- Carefully spread it on top of the soaked bread.
- Sprinkle with parmesan cheese if you are using it.
Step 4. Bake the garlic bread.
Pro-Tips
- Use softened butter. - Letting the butter soften before using it helps it melt more evenly and allows the garlic spread to come together easier.
- Don't skip dipping the bread. - It doesn't need long with gluten-free bread but letting them soak even for a few seconds makes the whole bread flavorful and doesn't leave you with a delicious topping and boring bread in the middle.
What to Serve with Garlic Bread?
I love serving garlic bread fresh and hot out of the oven.
This gluten-free garlic bread is the perfect extra little side dish to go with all your favorite gluten-free dinner recipes. From a simple pairing with some gluten-free alfredo to dipping into a big bowl of some gluten-free broccoli cheddar soup. You can even make it into gluten-free croutons to top a gluten-free caesar salad. The possibilities are endless.
How to Store Garlic Bread?
Storing leftover garlic bread in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days.
If you want to store it for longer than that, I suggest freezing the garlic bread before baking it. Just wrap the topped garlic bread in parchment paper and place it into a freezer-safe bag or container, and freeze it for up to 2 months.
Reheating garlic bread is easy. Place it in a warm oven for about 10-15 minutes, depending on if it's coming from the fridge or freezer. You can also microwave it in 15-second increments until warmed through as well.
